2018:
An antique skeleton in a museum is DNA tested, revealing that every single one of its bones has come from a different person. This macabre story attracts the interest of a journalist, Charlotte, whose own shadowed past leads to an obsession to know more.
1925:
Awaiting  execution for murder,  Kathryn tells the prison chaplain about bone magic. Having watched her little brother lose a finger in a mangle, she saved that tiny bone, certain that she could save him from further harm. But she lost the bone and he died in the trenches of the First World War. Heartbroken, she traveled to the front to nurse wounded soldiers. Faced with an unstoppable sea of death,she started saving their bones, but when the war was over, she found she couldn't stop. She needed to complete her collection.
